The catalytic converter is the most important external purification device installed in the exhaust system, which can convert harmful gases such as CO, HC and NOx from the exhaust gas into harmless carbon dioxide, water and nitrogen through oxidation and reduction. When the high-temperature tail gas passes through the purification unit, the purifying agent in the catalyst will enhance the activity of CO, HC and NOx and promote them to carry out a certain oxidation reduction chemical reaction, in which CO is oxidized to colorless and non-toxic carbon dioxide gas at high temperature; HC compounds are oxidized to water (H20) and carbon dioxide at high temperatures; NOx is reduced to nitrogen and oxygen. The three harmful gases become harmless gases, so that the tail gas can be purified.

The carrier part of the catalyst is a piece of porous ceramic material, which is installed in the special exhaust pipe. It is called a carrier because it does not participate in catalytic reactions, but is covered with platinum, rhodium, palladium and other precious metals. It can change HC and CO in exhaust gas into water and CO2, and decompose NOx into nitrogen and oxygen. HC and CO are toxic gases. Excessive inhalation will lead to death, while NOX will directly lead to photochemical smog.

Under the normal working condition of catalytic converter, due to the large amount of reaction heat generated by oxidation reaction, the performance of catalytic converter can be judged by temperature difference comparison. The outlet temperature of catalytic converter shall be at least 10~15% higher than the inlet temperature. For most normal catalytic converters, the outlet temperature of catalytic converter shall be 20~25% higher than the inlet temperature.

Honeycomb metal substrate catalyst has the advantages of fast burning, small volume, high mechanical strength, prominent heat-resistance, etc. It is widely used in motorcycles and vehicle (gasoline engine and diesel engine) exhaust system. We can meet the emission standard Euro II, Euro III, Euro IV, Euro V, EPA and CARB.
